About Ticks & Bytes

“Ticks & Bytes” is where markets and software come together.

Ticks

As I get started in this writing journey, I’ve challenged myself to publish one trade writeup every day throughout 2024. You’ll find them under Daily Writeup.

These articles always express my own opinions and interpretations of the charts I go over, and are obviously not financial advice. I use these to learn and improve for my own discretionary trading. Hopefully some of you find value in them.

For those interested in more technical stuff, expect some in-depth articles about Floaty’s architecture and inner workings as soon as it’s launched. Furthermore, I’m keen on writing about strategy building on NinjaTrader, interfacing with IBKR’s TWS, using Go and Rust for algorithmic trading; and anything I find interesting along the way.

Who am I?

My name is Abel.

I am a Software Engineer by heart, who unexpectedly became a trader.

Started writing software 20 years ago and have been doing it ever since. I've coded in more languages I can remember and deployed production-grade code to all major platforms you can think of. Having worked for many different industries, I have accumulated experience with a vast amount of technical tools, frameworks and technologies; giving me a broad technological vision to model, develop and deploy complex software systems. I excel in architecting and developing software projects that are out of the ordinary.

Nowadays, while working to improve my discretionary trading skills, I'm mostly devoted to the intersection between software and the financial markets. My main focus at the moment is building Floaty, the first trading assistant for retail traders; but I always strive to find spare time to code and run trading strategies.
